This sweet, warming spiked shot of espresso is a local cure for jet lag (and anything else that ails you) in Livorno. It's also a perfect digestif after a meal.
- 3 Tbs. hot brewed espresso
- 1-1/4 tsp. granulated sugar
- 1 Tbs. dark rum
- 1 Tbs. cognac
- One 1-1/2-inch by 1/2-inch strip lemon peel
In an espresso cup, combine the espresso and sugar, stirring to dissolve. Add the rum and cognac. Fold the outside of the lemon peel over the rim of the cup and run it around the entire edge, then drop the peel into the cup. Serve hot.
